LUBBOCK, TX – The largest party supply store chain in the United States is closing its Lubbock location after nearly 40 years of business nationwide.
Party City filed for bankruptcy in January 2023 and announced it was "winding down" its operations in December 2024. CEO Barry Litwin informed employees that the closure process would begin immediately.
Reports state that some Party City employees received letters stating that their store would close on February 28 and that their positions would be terminated at that time. However, the Lubbock location has not announced a timetable for its closure.

The company struggled with a $1.7 billion debt load and was able to reduce nearly $1 billion of that debt through bankruptcy proceedings. However, between late 2022 and August 2024, it closed more than 80 stores, though it managed to keep most of its 800 locations open.
Some stores nationwide are transitioning into independent party supply businesses using the Party City name, but they will no longer be affiliated with the chain, according to reports.
The Lubbock store, located at 6038 Marsha Sharp Freeway in the Canyon West Shopping Center, has posted signs about its closure and is offering 50% off all items as it prepares to shut down.
