DPS Identifies Man Killed in ATV Collision with 18-Wheeler

IDALOU, TX — A man was killed in a tragic collision between his ATV and an 18-wheeler on FM 400 at the intersection of County Road 5840, just east of Idalou, yesterday evening.

Eyewitnesses reported that the ATV driver sustained severe injuries. Bystanders administered CPR until EMS arrived, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the victim, identified as 26-year-old David Ryan Rocha of Lubbock, died from injuries sustained in the crash. DPS stated that Rocha ran a stop sign while driving the ATV at the intersection. The driver of the 18-wheeler attempted to swerve to avoid the collision but was unable to do so. The truck driver was not injured.

DPS also noted that Rocha was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The roads were dry, the skies were clear, and it was daylight when the crash occurred.

As of 10 p.m. Sunday night, the DPS investigation at the crash scene entered its fifth hour. All roads leading to the intersection were blocked. The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office and Idalou Fire Department assisted at the crash scene.
