Slaton Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash on US 84

LUBBOCK, TX — A Slaton man died in a motorcycle crash after colliding with the rear of a pickup truck on US 84, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Preliminary investigations reveal that Danny Adam Vasquez, Sr., 49, of Slaton, was traveling eastbound in the left lane of US 84. Meanwhile, Dane Lay Powell, 60, of Snyder, was positioned in the center crossover at the intersection of County Road 7200 and US 84. Vasquez struck the rear of Powell’s truck, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle. Despite wearing a helmet, Vasquez was fatally injured in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene. Powell was unharmed in the incident.

The weather conditions were clear, and the road was dry at the time of the crash, which occurred at 9:36 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the intersection of US 84 and County Road 7200 about halfway between Loop 289 and the town of Slaton.
