LUBBOCK, TX — A car crash early Saturday morning resulted in the death of one person and injuries to four others, prompting an investigation by the Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit.
According to a press release, at around 12:04 a.m. on September 29th, officers were called to the intersection of 16th Street and Avenue K after reports of a collision with injuries. Early evidence suggests that a 19-year-old named Carlos Sanchez-Luna was driving an SUV northbound on Avenue K when it collided with a passenger car heading west at the intersection.
The impact force caused the SUV to spin and hit a tree and pronounced Sanchez-Luna dead at the scene.
Among the SUV's four passengers, 19-year-old Dylan Burton and 20-year-old Gabrielle Perez suffered serious injuries, while 19-year-olds Wyatt Stewart and Alexandra Sigel sustained minor injuries. All four were taken by EMS to Covenant Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the passenger car was reported to be uninjured.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and ask anyone with information to reach out.
