Fatal Semi-Truck Crash Near Shallowater Claims One Life

 

SHALLOWATER, TX – Emergency crews responded to a fatal crash involving a semi-truck and a pedestrian early Wednesday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. at the intersection of FM 1294 and U.S. 84. Preliminary investigations reveal that Jesus Lionel DeMartinez, 35, from Shallowater, was walking westbound in the middle of the right lane when Richard Cerbantez, 53, of Hale Center, Texas. DeMartinez was pronounced deceased on the scene due to the injuries sustained in the collision.

Cerbantez was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt during the crash. Weather conditions were clear, the road was dry, and the posted speed was 75 mph. 

Traffic in the westbound lane was diverted but is clear now and open.
