Fatal Hit-and-Run Takes Life of Pedestrian in Hale County

 

HALE COUNTY, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently investigating a fatal pedestrian incident early Sunday morning, October 28, 2024, around 5:00 A.M. on FM 54 near County Road K.

According to a release from DPS, Christopher Craig Sanders Jr., 35, of Abernathy, Texas, was either sitting or walking close to the westbound lane of FM 54 when he was struck by an unknown vehicle or implement of husbandry, such as a tractor or grain hauler.

The unknown vehicle left the scene and has not yet been located. Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The weather conditions were clear, and the road was dry during the incident. The posted speed limit was 75 miles per hour.
