I-27 Traffic Blocked After Trailer Fire Leads to Crash

LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a tractor trailer fire on the 7000 block of South Interstate 27 early Thursday morning, Jan. 23.

According to LFR, the fire caused traffic to stop, and all southbound lanes of I-27 were closed between Drew Street and Regis Street.

While crews worked to extinguish the fire, a white truck and a white sedan crashed into the back of Truck 4. LFR said that traffic was backed up for about a mile north of the fire because of the accidents.

No one was injured in the fire or the crashes.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. LFR and the Texas DPS stayed on the scene to manage the situation.

Drivers are being told to avoid the area and find other routes until everything is cleared up.
