Levelland Man Killed in Fatal Bicycle Crash

 

HOCKLEY COUNTY, TX — A 54-year-old man was killed in a crash Wednesday night on FM 300, just east of Kelly Road, when he was hit by a pickup truck.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at 5:48 p.m., as the sun was beginning to set.

Darrel Keith Hudson, of Levelland, was riding his bicycle westbound on FM 300 when he was hit from behind by a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Marcus Jay Vargas, 22, of Sundown.

Hudson was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the collision. Vargas, wearing his seatbelt, was not injured in the crash.

Road conditions were clear and dry, said DPS. The posted speed limit in the area is 70 miles per hour.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
