93-Year-Old Woman Dies from Injuries in February Crash

 

LUBBOCK, TX – A woman has died from injuries she sustained in a February crash in East Lubbock.

According to a press release from the Lubbock Police Department, on February 27, at around 1:05 p.m., officers responded to a report of a crash with injuries in the 4100 block of Slaton Highway.

Investigators say Enrique Caballero, 71, was driving a pickup truck with a trailer attached, heading north on Olive Avenue. At the same time, Francis Gomez, 64, was driving an SUV westbound on Slaton Highway. As Caballero attempted to cross Slaton Highway, his pickup collided with Gomez's SUV.

Gomez had minor injuries, but her passenger, Helen Thomas, 93, was seriously hurt and was taken by EMS to Covenant Medical Center. 

LPD announced that Thomas passed away on March 4 at 11:43 a.m.

Caballero suffered minor injuries, and his passenger, Richard Garza, 69, had moderate injuries.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
