17-Year-Old Killed in Terry County Rollover on Wet Highway 137

 

TERRY COUNTY, TX — A 17-year-old from Lamesa was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash Tuesday night on State Highway 137, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to a press release from DPS, the crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. on April 22, about half a mile southeast of County Road 490, near Brownfield.

Authorities say the teen was driving a 2013 GMC Sierra pickup northwest when it began to skid on the wet roadway. The vehicle veered into the West Barrow ditch, rolled over, and hit several trees.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Weather at the time was cloudy, and road conditions were wet. The posted speed limit in the area is 75 miles per hour.

The crash remains under investigation.
