Midland Police Officer Hit by Pickup While Helping at Crash

 

MIDLAND, TX — A Midland police officer was injured late Thursday night after being hit by a pickup truck while helping with a separate crash along West Wall Street.

The crash happened just before 11 p.m. in the 2400 block of West Wall Street. The officer was standing behind a marked patrol vehicle with its emergency lights on when he was struck.

Reports say a 2021 Ford F-250 driven by Cody Justin Garcia, 24, crossed several lanes of traffic before hitting both the officer and his patrol unit. 

The officer was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Garcia was also hospitalized.

Police said Garcia is now facing several charges, including intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury to a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

The name of the officer has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
