SWAT Team Deployed After Hours-Long Standoff in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX — Law enforcement took a 31-year-old man into custody following a standoff with the Lubbock Police Department's SWAT team last Thursday evening.

David Valdez Jr. was apprehended after an hours-long standoff that began around 3:45 p.m. on August 15. The Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Unit had been searching for Valdez in connection with multiple outstanding warrants. The SWAT team was called to the 1500 block of 46th Street to assist in serving the warrants.

Upon arrival, SWAT officers encountered resistance as Valdez refused to exit the house. The Lubbock Police Department’s Negotiator team was brought in to facilitate a peaceful resolution.

Despite several hours of negotiations, Valdez remained inside the residence. Authorities then deployed a chemical agent to compel his surrender. After the deployment of the gas, Valdez eventually exited the house and was taken into custody around 10:15 p.m. without further incident.

Valdez was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center. He faces charges including Aggravated Robbery, Burglary of a Habitation, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

The Lubbock Police Department has not reported any injuries related to the incident.
