LUBBOCK, TX — On August 25, five individuals were indicted in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred at a club in the 9200 block of Hwy. 87. The incident, which took place early that morning, resulted in multiple injuries and one fatality.
According to a report from the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews responded to the scene following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered several individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds. Among the victims was 17-year-old Dalequavion Barnard York, who tragically died at the scene.
The report indicated that two victims were transported to University Medical Center by ambulance, while two others arrived in private vehicles. A fifth individual was en route to UMC and had to pull over and call emergency medical services for assistance.
On Tuesday, the following five men were indicted and charged with Deadly Conduct Discharge of a Firearm: Joshua Price, 27, Lavarius “LV” Scott, 19, Byron “BWAY” Hawkins, Jr., 22, Dazaun “DJ” Jones, 18, Christen Nelson, 23.
Surveillance footage revealed that six individuals were involved in discharging firearms at the club. During an interview with investigators, Price admitted to being present during the shooting and claimed he fired multiple weapons into the air to “scare people away.” However, a witness contradicted this statement, saying that Price was shooting into a crowd.
The report further detailed that Price was seen on surveillance video pointing a shotgun at a crowd and firing in their direction, displaying no attention for safety. Nelson was also identified through witness statements and video footage as having shot into the crowd.
Nelson sustained a leg injury during the incident and was later taken to UMC for treatment. Police arrested him at the hospital on an unrelated charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
Additionally, York, who lost his life in the shooting, was reported to have fired into the crowd as well. Scott, Jones, and Hawkins were seen arriving at the club in a white sedan. Reports state the three were captured on surveillance footage approaching the crowd, then separating before Jones and Scott began shooting into the crowd and specifically targeting York and Nelson.
Following the shooting, Hawkins, Scott, and Jones reportedly returned to their vehicle and left the scene.
All five individuals remain in custody at the Lubbock County Detention Center.
