LUBBOCK, TX — A shooting incident in Lubbock at the Executive Inn on January 9, 2024, resulted in the indictment of Billy Ray Westbrook, 40, who faces multiple charges of aggravated assault. The incident left two victims, Noel Narbaez and Eduardo Marmolejo, injured in the shooting.
According to court records, detectives from the Lubbock Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the motel located at 4401 Ave. Q. When they arrived, officers found Narbaez, who had sustained gunshot wounds to both legs, grasping to the front desk, where he was looking for help after fleeing from the suspects. Emergency medical personnel treated him at the scene.
Marmolejo, who was shot in the leg, reported that he was struck while mounting his bike and managed to hop to his sister's room for safety. Both victims were able to provide details about the attack, implicating Westbrook and his alleged accomplice, Tyverius Thomas.
Surveillance footage from the Executive Inn captured Westbrook exiting a room shortly before the shooting and later running with a firearm. The footage corroborated the victims' accounts, showing Westbrook firing at Narbaez and pursuing him after the initial shots were fired.
The detective investigation led to the identification of Westbrook through social media images, which matched the surveillance video evidence. The footage indicated Westbrook was wearing the same clothing as he exited the room and during the shooting.
Court records did not indicate why Westbrook was shooting at Narbaez and Marmolejo.
In addition to the charges related to the January shooting, court documents reveal Westbrook has a history of felony convictions, including drug possession and unlawful firearm possession, which could lead to enhanced penalties.
On October 22, 2024, a grand jury formally indicted Westbrook on two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and seek any additional witnesses. Westbrook's next court appearance is pending. He faces serious charges that could result in significant prison time if convicted.
Billy Westbrook is currently held at the Lubbock County Detention Center with bonds totaling $168,500.
Tyverius Thomas was also booked at the Lubbock County Detention Center, but court documents did not state how he was arrested. According to the Lubbock Jail Roster, Thomas' bonds total $115,000 for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1 / 1-B Greater Than or Equal to 4 Grams, Less than 200 Grams), Possession of Marijuana Under 2oz, Burglary of Vehicles, and Escape from Custody.
