HOBBS, NM –– The Hobbs Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred early on November 17, leaving two people injured.
According to a post on Facebook, at 3:24 a.m., officers responded to Marland Boulevard and Leech Street, where they found Isaiah Chavez-Wright, 22, from Hobbs with multiple gunshot wounds. He was treated at the scene and taken to Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital, then flown to a hospital in Texas.
While helping Chavez-Wright, officers were notified of a second victim. They responded to Harden Street and Thorp Street, where they found Devin Sanders, 29, also from Hobbs, who had crashed his car into a utility pole. Sanders had multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the same hospital, then flown to Texas for further treatment. He is in serious condition, while Chavez-Wright is stable.
On November 19, after an investigation, police issued a warrant for 33-year-old Devarian Gibson of Hobbs. Gibson was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery and Shooting At or From a Motor Vehicle.
