Man Threatens Wife With Machete, Hits Her with Candy Box Instead

LUBBOCK, TX — A Lubbock man was arrested on December 30, 2024, after allegedly threatening his wife with a machete and striking her in the head with a box of candy.

Lubbock Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home on the 1100 block of Grinnell Street in Lubbock. When authorities arrived, David Moreau, 43, and the victim, Moreau’s wife, were found outside the house, visibly upset.

She told the police that her husband had threatened her several times, even saying he planned to kill her. She also mentioned that Moreau was holding a machete, which made her even more scared for her safety. According to court documents, the incident was linked to ongoing issues with Moreau's mental health.

When police attempted to talk with Moreau, he refused to comply with their instructions and retreated back into the house. Officers followed him inside and were able to detain him without incident.

After Moreau was detained and settled, the police talked to the victim again. She explained what had happened before the confrontation and stated the argument started when she came home from the store and found Moreau talking strangely to the picture on a chocolate candy box.

Worried about his behavior, she tried to step in, but Moreau got agitated and hit her hard on the top of the head with the candy box.

The victim told officers that a heated verbal argument ensued, and Moreau made several disturbing comments, including telling her she “better be glad she was still breathing.”

He also allegedly referenced past plans to kill her in the argument, but the victim told officers that he stated he did not follow through because of how tough it would be to bury her body in the backyard due to how hard the ground was.

At a point in the conversation, the victim said Moreau brandished the machete again and made more threats to kill her. Luckily, she was able to take the machete away from him, but he quickly grabbed it out of her hand and continued to wave it around and threaten her life.

As police spoke to the victim, they observed that she had a visible bruise on her left eye. She explained it was from a separate altercation on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024. She reported that Moreau had hit her during another argument. Reports state that this assault is being investigated separately.

After looking up Moreau’s past information, police found that he had been arrested earlier in July 2024 for assaulting his wife.

Based on the evidence presented, David Moreau was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, continuous family violence, and evading arrest or detention.

Currently, he is being held at the Lubbock County Detention Center with a total bond of $65,000.
