Suspects Flee in Black SUV After Man Shot in South Lubbock

 

LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX — A shooting in south Lubbock is under investigation after a man was injured on Wednesday morning, January 15.

At around 11:56 a.m., deputies from the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of shots fired in the 12000 block of US Highway 87.

When the deputies arrived, they found Richard Mercado, 34, with a gunshot wound to his left leg. Deputies applied a tourniquet to help stop the bleeding before he was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. 

LCSO stated Mercado’s injuries are not life-threatening, and he is expected to recover.

The suspect, or suspects, fled the scene in a black SUV, driving south from the location.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office at 806-775-1480, referencing call for service number 430. In case of an emergency, people are advised to call 911.

The investigation is still ongoing.
