Wanted Clovis Man Hides in Attic, Arrested After SWAT Standoff

CLOVIS, NM — A man wanted for robbery was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a SWAT team was called in for a standoff at a house on Merriwether Street.

According to a press release from the Clovis Police Department, at around 4:48 p.m. on January 22, a Clovis police officer recognized Jesus Anaya, 31, who was wanted for a second-degree robbery charge.

Officers set up a perimeter around a house in the 800 block of Merriwether Street and confirmed Anaya was inside. When officers tried to contact him, Anaya crawled into the attic to avoid being arrested.

In response, the Clovis Police Department activated their SWAT team. Officers called out for Anaya to surrender, but he did not comply. A search warrant was approved to enter the house, and soon after, Anaya was taken into custody.

He was arrested on multiple charges, including the robbery warrant, a shoplifting warrant, and a probation/parole violation. CPD says more charges could be added as the investigation continues.

The Clovis Police Department is currently looking into the case and will release more details as information is provided.
