Suspect Shot After Lubbock Police Chase Ends in Foot Pursuit

LUBBOCK, TX – A police pursuit that began in rural Lubbock County late ended with an officer-involved shooting on Thursday night.

According to a statement from the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, around 9:15 p.m. on January 24, deputies initiated a pursuit of a black Dodge Charger on County Road 3100 and Highway 84. The car continued into Lubbock, where Lubbock Police Department officers joined the chase.

A spike strip was successfully deployed on I-27, disabling the Charger. The male suspect abandoned the vehicle and ran on foot toward the 1100 block of 57th Street. Deputies released a K9 to track him and assist in the search.

As deputies closed in, the suspect reportedly pulled out a weapon, prompting one of the deputies to fire. The suspect was shot around 9:33 p.m. and was taken to a local hospital by EMS for treatment of his injuries.

The suspect’s condition has not been publicly released, and his name has not been disclosed.

A person who was not involved in the chase was bitten by the K9 and was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, says LCSO.

The deputy who fired the shot has been placed on administrative leave with pay, per department protocol.

This investigation remains ongoing.
