Tulia Police Arrest Suspect in 2024 Homicide Case

TULIA, TX — A months-long investigation into a medical emergency that turned into a suspected homicide has led to the arrest of a man from Tulia.

On May 27, 2024, the Tulia Police Department responded to a call for a medical emergency in the 400 block of N. Gaines. When officers arrived, they found that the victim had died from their injuries. According to a press release on Facebook, the department immediately launched a criminal investigation.

Over the following months, the Tulia Police were joined by the Swisher County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers, and the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Division to gather evidence and piece together what happened.

On Saturday, January 25, a murder warrant was issued for Jessie Del Torro, a resident of Tulia.

Tulia Police arrested Del Torro with help from local and state agencies, but the release did not state where the arrest was made.

He was first booked into the Swisher County Jail and later transferred to the Hale County Jail, where he is currently held on a $1,000,000 bond.

Tulia Police stated that no further details are being released at this time, and they will provide more information as the investigation continues.
