Lubbock Teen Leads DPS in High-Speed Chase in Stolen Vehicle

LUBBOCK, TX – A 16-year-old from Lubbock was arrested on Monday afternoon after leading Texas DPS Troopers on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle.

According to DPS, the incident began around 1:21 p.m. when Troopers spotted a 2018 Hyundai Elantra that had been reported stolen out of Hobbs, New Mexico, in the Lubbock area.

Troopers tried to pull over the vehicle, but the driver took off and sped through north Lubbock. The vehicle crashed into another car at the intersection of 4th and Frankfort. No injuries were reported.

The chase continued until the driver lost control and crashed into a light pole in the 300 block of North Slide.

The 16-year-old driver was taken into custody and later booked into the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest.

A 17-year-old female passenger was found to be in the car, but she was not arrested and was released at the scene, said DPS.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
