WOLFFORTH, TX — A man was arrested on February 12 after allegedly assaulting a woman in Wolfforth, pulling her to the ground, and stomping on her face.
According to court documents, a Wolfforth police officer was patrolling the area when dispatch called a domestic assault situation at the 500 block of E. 21st Street.
When the officer arrived, he met with the victim and noticed she had a golf ball-sized bruise on her left eyebrow and redness on the left side of her face. The officer also noted signs that she had been crying for a long period of time.
The victim told the officer that the assault started after an argument with Zachary Martinez, 34. Court records stated she was on the phone with her mother during the argument.
When she tried to walk away from Martinez, he grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the ground. She said Martinez slammed the back of her head against the ground as he pulled her hair and stomped on her face with his foot.
The victim told the officer that Martinez had fled the scene after she called the police. She also mentioned this was not the first time he had been violent, remembering past charges of domestic violence in 2021 and 2022.
After speaking with the victim, officers left the scene, located Martinez a few blocks away, and arrested him.
The officer's observations were in line of the victim's injuries, leading him to believe Martinez was the primary aggressor. He felt that without making an arrest, the violence would likely continue.
Martinez was arrested for Assault Domestic Violence and is on outstanding warrants from both the Lubbock Police Department and the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office.
The specifics of those warrants were not included in the court documents.
Martinez is currently held at the Lubbock County Jail on a $50,000 bond and has been confined for 3 days as of February 14.
