LUBBOCK, TX — Police said a man was arrested after burning his wife’s foot with a lighter, which led to a standoff with police and the discovery of a loaded AR-15 rifle and ammo with him in his bedroom.
According to court documents, Lubbock Police were called to the 300 block of 77th Street after a man’s wife called 911, claiming that he had tried to set her foot on fire with a lighter.
When police arrived at the scene, she told officers that Timothy McGlothlin, 29, was throwing things around the room before using a lighter to burn her foot. Officers observed her foot and noted the burn marks aligned with her account.
At the time the police were at the scene, McGlothlin barricaded himself in his room. Police learned he was intoxicated and had firearms in the room.
Despite multiple requests to come out and talk, McGlothlin initially refused. After prodding, however, he stepped out of the room with his hands up. When officers approached McGlothlin, he quickly ran back into the room and attempted to shut the door.
Officers were able to enter the room and conduct a takedown on McGlothlin quickly. Inside the bedroom, officers discovered a loaded AR-15 rifle along with ammunition on a nightstand next to the bed.
It is unclear what McGlothlin’s intentions were, but court documents state he claimed the rifle was not out before, and officers noted it appeared he was arming himself for a fight.
McGlothlin was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Evading Detention. He was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where his bond remains at $32,000.
