DALLAS, TX — A Texas man was convicted on Thursday, March 27, for selling illegal machine gun conversion devices.
As announced by Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Chad E. Meacham, the conviction stems from two separate sales Corey Wilson, 20, made in 2023.
Wilson now faces up to 10 years in federal prison for each count.
According to a testimony at trial, Wilson sold devices that could turn regular AR-platform firearms into fully automatic weapons. Wilson explained that the devices had to be “activated” and demonstrated how to adjust and place them in a rifle to get them to fire “fully,” meaning fully automatic. These devices, known as "switches," can be made from cheap materials, but Wilson sold them for $150 each on his Instagram account.
At trial, it was shown that undercover agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) bought the devices from Wilson. Wilson sold six devices in the first purchase on May 30, 2023. Then, on June 6, 2023, he sold 20 more devices in Northeast Dallas, an area covered by the Project Safe Neighborhood program.
This case is part of "Operation Texas Kill Switch," a statewide effort to crack down on the illegal sale of machine gun conversion devices.
The case is also part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program that works to reduce gun violence and make neighborhoods safer by bringing together local communities and law enforcement.
The ATF’s Dallas Field Division led the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert Withers, Walt Junker, and Elise Aldendifer prosecuted the case.
Wilson’s sentencing will happen at a later date, where he will face serious penalties for his role in selling illegal gun parts.
