LUBBOCK, TX — A man is facing multiple charges following a shooting Tuesday evening in East Lubbock that claimed the life of a 4-year-old boy.
Lubbock Police officers were called to the 2900 block of East Bates Street just after 5 p.m. on April 9 after reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found a 4-year-old in the doorway of the home, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to University Medical Center by EMS but was later pronounced dead.
Investigators say that the boy was in a bedroom with several family members, including other children, when a gun went off. The suspected shooter, later identified as Isaiah Holland, 26, reportedly fled the scene with the weapon before officers arrived.
Police and the Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Center launched a search for Holland. The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit and Forensic Investigation Unit were also called in to assist, and Child Protective Services responded to the scene.
At around 11:30 p.m., TAG officers found Holland near 45th Street and Avenue P, where he tried to flee but was caught after a short foot chase. Authorities say Holland tossed a gun during the pursuit, and it was later recovered.
During questioning, Holland admitted to having the firearm at the time of the shooting and taking it with him when he left the house.
Isaiah Holland was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on charges of Evading Arrest, Tampering with Evidence, and Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon. He was later served with a second warrant tied to the original scene. His total bond is set at $250,000.
The investigation is still ongoing.
