Levelland Man Killed by Train in Abilene While Walking on Tracks

ABILENE, TX — A man was hit and killed by a train Tuesday afternoon while walking along the tracks in Abilene, according to the Abilene Police Department.

The incident happened just after 1:00 p.m. on April 15 near the 2600 block of the train tracks, after multiple callers reported seeing a man walking along the tracks with headphones on when he was hit by an eastbound train.

Officers arrived to find the man dead at the scene from traumatic injuries. Investigators believe the victim was unaware of the approaching train due to wearing headphones.

The victim has been identified as Timothy Delgado, 37, of Levelland, Texas. Justice of the Peace Shawna Joiner pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities say next of kin notification has been made, and the death investigation remains ongoing.

The Abilene Police Department is handling the case as a death investigation.

Officials are reminding the public to stay off train tracks and remain alert near active rail lines, noting that walking along tracks is not only dangerous but illegal.
