LUBBOCK, TX — Police arrested a man Monday for allegedly trapping a woman and baby in a room, assaulting her, and preventing her from calling 911.
According to court documents, officers responded to the 2700 block of East Colgate Street on April 21 after a 911 call reported a domestic disturbance. The call sheet stated that a man was "putting hands" on the person calling.
When officers arrived, a crying young girl opened the door and looked scared. She pointed them toward a hallway where the suspect, later identified as Jamie Barron, 35, a woman, and a baby were locked in a room.
An officer knocked on the door, identified himself as police, and heard a man and a woman arguing and a baby crying inside. After asking to open the door multiple times, the woman quickly unlocked and opened the door, and she ran out holding a baby. Officers noted visible redness on the woman’s face when she passed them.
Once officers could walk inside the room, Jamie Barron was taken into custody.
The woman shortly told officers she and Barron are in a relationship and live together in the home. She said Barron locked her in a room, started hitting her while she was holding their baby, and threw a bag of peanuts at her that ended up hitting the child. She tried to leave, but he shoved her onto the bed and continued to hit her as she used her body as a shield to protect the baby.
Both the woman and the baby had minor visible injuries. Court documents state she said she was scared to call for help because he took the phone out of her hands, and believed it was because she had called the police on him before.
Jamie Barron was arrested and charged with Continuous Violence Against the Family, Abandoning/Endangering a Child, Domestic Assault, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Restraint, and Interference with Emergency Services.
He was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center with a total bond set at $101,000.
