West Texas Deputy Shot During Traffic Stop in Iraan, Suspect Killed

 

IRAAN, TX — A Pecos County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot Tuesday afternoon during a routine traffic stop in Iraan, Texas.

According to the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. on May 6. The deputy pulled a vehicle over for a traffic violation when the suspect fired a gun at the deputy and fled the scene.

Law enforcement agencies launched an immediate search, and the suspect was later located along U.S. Highway 190, approximately eight miles east of Iraan.

The Pecos County Sheriff’s Office reported that an exchange of gunfire occurred, resulting in the suspect being killed. Authorities have confirmed there was no threat to the public.

AirMed airlifted the injured deputy to Midland Memorial Hospital, and she is currently in stable condition.

Iraan-Sheffield Collegiate ISD was also placed on lockdown Tuesday as a precaution due to the nearby shooting.

The investigation has been turned over to the Texas Rangers and remains active and ongoing. No additional details have been released at this time.
