18-Year-old Arrested After Shooting in Central Lubbock

 

LUBBOCK, TX – An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that seriously injured a 15-year-old boy in Central Lubbock on Friday afternoon.

Lubbock Police responded to reports of shots fired at a residence in the 5100 block of 46th Street around 4:17 p.m. on May 17. Upon arrival, officers learned the teenage victim had already been taken by private vehicle to Covenant Children’s Hospital with a gunshot wound. He was reported to be in serious condition.

Investigators with the Major Crimes Unit and the Special Victims Unit were called to the scene. Authorities identified Jesus Gonzales, 18, as the suspected shooter. Initial statements at the scene were conflicting, but officers were later directed to the location of the firearm inside the residence. The gun was recovered and secured as evidence.

Gonzales was arrested without incident and charged with aggravated assault. He was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing.
