LUBBOCK, TX — A man was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly assaulting a woman during and after an argument that began while driving home from a local bar.
According to court documents, officers arrived at a home in the 3100 block of 48th Street, near Monterey High School, and found Adrian Hernandez, 25, and a woman in the driveway. Police say the woman appeared visibly shaken, emotional, and had several minor injuries.
The woman told officers she and Hernandez were drinking at Adolph’s Grill and Bar earlier in the night. She said an argument ensued when he insisted they leave after she said she was not ready to go. She eventually agreed, and they began driving home. On the way home, she told officers the argument escalated, and at some point near the 34th Street and Quaker Avenue intersection, she tried to get out of the moving vehicle.
She told police Hernandez grabbed her to keep her from falling out of the vehicle and eventually pulled into a nearby McDonald’s parking lot. Court documents state that she tried to run from him once the car stopped, but he caught her and dragged her across the asphalt before forcing her back into the car.
Once they returned home, the woman claimed the argument continued. She told officers Hernandez pushed her against the vehicle and continued to yell at her. Her sister, who also lives at the residence, later showed officers doorbell camera footage that appeared to show Hernandez grabbing the woman and throwing her to the ground.
Officers noted visible injuries, including scrapes on her shoulder, arms, and ankles. Her clothing was dirty and torn, and she told officers she was dragged with such force that her underwear had torn.
Police then spoke with Hernandez, and he told officers that the woman tried to jump out of the vehicle during their argument, but said he only picked her up from the ground to bring her back to the car. He denied that any altercation had happened after they returned home.
Police determined there was enough evidence to arrest Hernandez on suspicion of Domestic Violence Assault. They also confirmed he had outstanding warrants through the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS). Court documents did not specify what the warrants were.
Adrian Hernandez was transported and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center. He posted bail as of May 23.
