GRAPEVINE, TX — A 21-year-old woman is facing manslaughter charges after a deadly jet ski crash on Lake Grapevine that killed an 18-year-old U.S. Air Force Academy cadet on Sunday.
Texas Game Warden Capt. Joseph Quintero announced the charge Wednesday against Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez. She has been accused of driving a jet ski that struck and killed Ava Moore while Moore was kayaking near the shoreline on Sunday, May 25.
Investigators say Gonzalez was speeding on the watercraft with another woman as a passenger when the jet ski hit Moore. After the crash, Gonzalez and her passenger allegedly left the scene. The passenger later returned to shore, where emergency crews were trying to save Moore’s life. Moore was taken to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities say Gonzalez left the lake in a car driven by 21-year-old Maikel Coello Perozo. On their way out, their vehicle reportedly crashed into two other cars. Both were arrested in Dallas on Tuesday.
Gonzalez is charged with second-degree felony manslaughter, which carries a possible prison sentence of two to 20 years. Perozo faces two misdemeanor charges: hindering apprehension and collision involving damage to a vehicle. The other woman has not been charged.
According to a statement from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, both Gonzalez and Perozo are Venezuelan nationals who entered the U.S. without legal status. ICE says Gonzalez was released after being processed by Border Patrol in September 2023, and Perozo entered in January 2023 under similar circumstances.
The case has caught national attention, especially due to ongoing immigration enforcement. Texas Governor Greg Abbott commented on social media, suggesting Gonzalez should face the death penalty, though under current charges, that would not apply.
The investigation remains active, with state and federal agencies now involved.
