Lubbock Woman Arrested for Felony Arson Following Backyard Fire

LUBBOCK, TX — A 33-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with felony arson following a backyard fire Wednesday evening in central Lubbock.

Lubbock Fire Rescue responded around 7 p.m. to reports of smoke coming from a property in the 1300 block of 59th Street. Quint 10 arrived on scene and quickly extinguished a fence fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

Due to the nature of the fire, the Lubbock Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate. Eyewitness accounts led investigators to the suspect, Mindy Villarreal, who had reportedly fled the scene. She was later located and booked into the Lubbock County Jail without incident. In addition to the felony arson charge, Villarreal had an active warrant at the time of her arrest.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 806-775-2646 or email [email protected].
