Former Lubbock Youth Pastor Sentenced for Sexual Assault

LUBBOCK, TX — A former youth pastor from Lubbock was sentenced Monday to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of child sexual assault bigamy.

Luke Cunningham, 43, is required to serve a lifetime protective order and register as a sex offender for life.

Cunningham served at Turning Point Community Church from 2016 to 2020 and was involved with two other churches in the Lubbock area.

Prosecutors said Cunningham had allegations dating back to 2013 at previous churches, and there was another case being investigated in Fort Worth.

Cunningham was most recently with Lakeside Baptist Church in Granbury.

The District Attorney’s office stated there were 16 separate incidents of sexual assault involving two victims in the Lubbock area in 2018. Both victims were under the age of 17.

It was alleged in court that Cunningham also made plans to have a fellow inmate kill one of his victims and make it look like a suicide.
