LUBBOCK, TX – The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce inaugurated a new business on the bottom floor of the Metro Tower on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. Colbert’s General Store, a local downtown corner stop, officially had its ribbon cutting at 1220 Broadway Street Suite 110.
The owner of Colbert’s General Store, Chuck Colbert, is grateful for the Lubbock community and truly believes his store will give back in many ways possible.
“We're down here for everybody, not just the residents in the Metro Tower, we're open to the entire community with these doors,” Colbert told South Plains LIVE!
Colbert initially wanted to open a diner in the 1800 square foot space but inevitably couldn’t due to the integrity and appearance of the outside wall. Instead, he decided to open a general store convenient to residents in the Metro Tower and anyone who spends time in the downtown area.
“Everybody said that people have tried this for 40 years, and they've always failed. I said, well, watch this,” the owner exclaimed.
Colbert appreciates his staff and what they have done to help him through his journey.
“I've got a lot of employees at work. I've got some special needs employees, people who are out of addiction and recovery, and some ex-homeless people just trying to give back to the community,” stated Colbert.
With the convenience store open for 90 days, Colbert is eager to get busy and have business rolling in downtown and is open to suggestions on what he should offer in the store.
Colbert’s General Store is located at 1220 Broadway Street Suite 110 and is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is closed on Sundays.
