$2.2M Grant Boosts Small Business Development in Texas

LUBBOCK, TX – On Tuesday, September 17, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced a significant investment to support small businesses in Texas.

The Department’s Economic Development Administration is awarding a $2.2 million grant to the South Plains Association of Governments based in Lubbock. This funding will be used for crucial building renovations to enhance small business development in the region.

According to a press release from the EDA, the grant will facilitate the creation of the South Plains Regional Small Business Innovation Center.

This new center is designed to offer essential resources, support, and technical assistance to small businesses across the 15 counties SPAG serves.

“Small businesses are the backbone of the Texas economy,” stated Governor Greg Abbott in response to the announcement.

He expressed his gratitude to the Economic Development Administration for their investment, highlighting that the grant will be instrumental in strengthening the local economy and supporting businesses throughout the region.

The funding for this project comes from the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2023.
