LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Power & Light is heading to Gainesville, Florida, to help in recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. According to a press release, LP&L dispatched 13 vehicles and 15 crewmembers this week from the LP&L Distribution Center.
The team first traveled to Montgomery, Alabama, waiting for the storm to pass before continuing to Gainesville to begin restoration work. The crew is made up of two construction teams, two service crews, and one mechanic.
This deployment is part of a mutual service agreement LP&L has signed to assist in disaster recovery efforts. The last time LP&L was called to help was after Hurricane Ian caused extensive damage in Lakeland, Florida.
LP&L Chief Administrative Officer Joel Ivy emphasized the importance of helping other communities in crisis. “Sending crews to assist cities that have endured large natural disasters is crucial and part of our commitment,” Ivy stated.
“One day, we may need to help ourselves, and we trust that our fellow electric utilities will come to our aid. Helping neighbors in need is always the right thing to do.”
All expenses related to LP&L’s restoration efforts will be reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency due to the disaster declaration, said the release.
