Concrete Truck Strikes Gas Meter in Lubbock Causing Fire

LUBBOCK, TX — At approximately 8:15 a.m. today, September 30,  Lubbock Fire Rescue received a 911 call reporting that a concrete truck had struck a gas meter in the 6000 block of 77th Street. Engine 18 was dispatched shortly after the call.

According to a post on X, the Lieutenant from Engine 18 quickly assessed the situation and requested a structured response, bringing in three additional engines, one truck, and two Battalion Chiefs to manage the incident. With the prompt actions of the first arriving units, there was no fire spread to nearby homes.

Emergency crews worked diligently on the scene to ensure safety. ATMOS Energy and Lubbock Power & Light were able to isolate the power and gas beneath the truck, minimizing potential hazards.

Fortunately, the driver of the concrete truck was able to exit the vehicle without injury.

Lubbock Fire Rescue said they will continue to monitor the situation as crews remain on site to facilitate the removal of the truck from the alleyway.

Residents are advised to avoid the area near 82nd Street and Frankford Avenue while emergency crews manage the ongoing response.
