Lubbock's Beloved Cocktail Parlor Closes its Doors

LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock’s favorite downtown cocktail parlor will officially close its doors on Saturday, November 2.

Owner Mattew Layton announced the closure of Bodine’s Cocktail Parlor in a social media post, reflecting on the bittersweet experience of running the bar over the past two years, “It’s the single most bittersweet thing I’ve ever experienced.”

While he mentioned various reasons for closing, he opted not to dive into specifics but called it a “perfect storm” of challenges, some avoidable and others beyond control.

In his post, Layton thanked his past and present employees, friends, and patrons who supported Bodine’s throughout its journey.

“Thank you for the opportunity to learn,” he wrote. “Thank you for the memories.”

As a farewell to the Lubbock community, Layton has planned several nights of live music and opportunities for locals to say their goodbyes in the final weeks. “We have a couple of nights of great live music left, and several bittersweet ‘see ya soon’s coming up,” he noted.

Layton also says he is unsure of what is next but is excited about possibly pursuing a new “dream project” with a close friend.

Bodine’s Cocktail Parlor, located at 1717 Crickets Avenue, invites the community to celebrate its final days. Their hours are Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., and closed on Mondays.

The bar will host special live music events on Friday and Saturday nights. On its last day, November 2, the bar will have a farewell gathering from 5 p.m. until closing, inviting everyone to share in one last toast.

Layton encourages everyone to come by for one last drink as the pink neon sign prepares to turn off for the last time.

“It’s been one hell of a fight.”
