LISD Pulls Four Schools from Consolidation Plans

LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Independent School District announced on Thursday, October 31, that four elementary schools will no longer be considered for closure as part of the district's consolidation plans announced in early October.

This decision is based on ongoing discussions about addressing a $14.8 million budget deficit, declining enrollment rates, and the lack of new state funding.

The schools no longer considered in the consolidation are:

  • Wheelock Elementary
  • Honey Elementary
  • Wolffarth Elementary
  • Ramirez Elementary

The district's Future Focus Committee, with over 100 members, including parents, students, community members, staff, and district leaders, is currently assessing campus needs across the district.

While no final decisions have been made, these recommendations will be presented during a meeting on November 21, with any potential board action deferred until December.

This development addresses concerns raised by parents and teachers about the potential impact of school closures on the Lubbock community.
