City of Lubbock Announces Thanksgiving Closures

 

LUBBOCK, TX — The City of Lubbock announced that most city offices and facilities will be closed Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Several city services will have adjusted hours throughout the holiday weekend, and normal operations will continue on Monday, December 2.

Residential Trash Collection

Residential trash collection will proceed as scheduled on Monday, November 25, and Tuesday, November 26. However, due to the holiday, there will be no residential collection on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29.

Recycling and Landfill Operations
  • Landfills will close early at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, and remain closed on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 28) and Friday, November 29. Operations will resume on Saturday, November 30, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Drop-off sites will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28-29, but will reopen at normal hours on Saturday, November 30.
Libraries

All public libraries will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, and will remain closed Thursday and Friday, November 28-29. Libraries will reopen on Saturday, November 30, with regular operating hours.

Community Centers and Facilities
  • Community Centers will close at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, and remain closed through the holiday weekend, reopening Monday, December 2.
  • Safety City will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28-29.
  • The Burgess-Rushing Tennis Center will also be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28-29, and will resume normal hours on Saturday, November 30.
Cultural Facilities
  • The Buddy Holly Center, Silent Wings Museum, and Garden and Arts Center will close on Thursday and Friday, November 28-29, and will reopen on Saturday, November 30, with regular hours.

The city encourages citizens to plan ahead and make any necessary arrangements for services impacted by the holiday closures.
