Power Outage in South Lubbock Affects 7,000 Homes

LUBBOCK, TX – A power outage in South Lubbock left nearly 7,000 residents without electricity this morning after an issue at the Frankford substation.

According to a post from South Plains Electric Cooperative, Inc., The outage started around 10:00 AM and had crews from both Xcel Energy and local utilities to respond quickly.

By 11:04 AM, crews were on-site working to fix the fault, and by 11:20 AM, power had been restored to most homes in the Frankford area. However, if anyone is still without power, utility officials ask residents to call 806-741-0111 to report it.

According to Xcel Energy, the problem was traced to the transmission side of the power grid, meaning repairs need to be made before power can be restored to the substation and the surrounding area.

Xcel posted a video explaining the difference between transmission and distribution power to help residents understand the process.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience while we get things back up and running,” said a spokesperson in a statement. "Our crews are working hard to fix the issue and restore power as quickly as possible."

For any further updates, residents are encouraged to keep an eye on local utility company notifications.
