Preston Smith Intl. Airport Shares Holiday Travel Tips

LUBBOCK, TX — The holiday travel season is in full swing, and Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport offers some tips for travelers as they depart to see their loved ones.

With the holiday season bringing in more travelers, LBB staff is working hard to keep everything running smoothly and make sure passengers get to their destinations safely. Travelers are reminded to be patient and show kindness to airport staff as they manage the hustle and bustle of the busy season.

Here are some important tips to help make holiday traveling easier, according to the Preston Smith International Airport:

Packing Tips

  • Pack wisely: Check your carry-on luggage for prohibited items, and avoid packing valuables or medications in checked bags.
  • If traveling with bags for hobbies or hunting, double-check that no unintended prohibited items are inside.
  • Be aware that wrapped gifts may need to be unwrapped during security checks.
  • Visit www.tsa.gov or download the MyTSA app for a full list of prohibited items, the 3-1-1 rule for liquids, and guidelines for traveling with food or gifts.

Before You Leave for the Airport

  • Arrive at least 90 minutes before your scheduled boarding time.
  • Check the status of your flight with your airline prior to heading to the airport.
  • Print your boarding pass or use an electronic version in advance.
  • Remember to bring a government-issued photo ID for all adult passengers.

Parking

  • Parking at the terminal is expected to fill up quickly. Additional covered parking is available at Airport Shelter Park, with a free shuttle service to the terminal. For parking rates and hours, call 806-744-1004.

Check-In Tips

  • If you check in a bag, you must drop it off at the ticket counter, even if you have checked in online.
  • If you have checked in online and are not checking a bag, proceed directly to the TSA security line.
  • Allow extra time if traveling with children, elderly passengers, people with disabilities, or pets.
  • For passengers traveling with service animals, there is a Service Animal Relief Area (SARA) located across from Gates 6 & 7.

Picking Up Passengers

  • The Cell Phone Waiting Area offers free parking for those picking up passengers. Wait there until your traveler contacts you after collecting their bags.
  • Curbside is for immediate pick-up and drop-off only. Waiting at the curb is not allowed.

In addition to these tips, a new coffee shop is open at the Preston Smith International Airport! Travelers can now enjoy a fresh cup of coffee at Paint Rock Coffee Co. before hopping on a flight.
