LFR Contains Chimney Fire in Central Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX — A fire broke out at a home on the 1900 Block of 26th Street early Monday morning that was quickly contained by Lubbock Fire Rescue crews.

At around 8:00 a.m., a 911 caller reported heavy smoke coming from the roof of the house. When firefighters arrived, they found a small single-story home with smoke pouring from the roof. Engine 1 and Battalion 1 were first on the scene and began to control the fire immediately.

The fire was limited to just 20% of the attic space, preventing major damage to the rest of the house.

Investigators later determined that the fire was caused by a problem with the fireplace chimney, which allowed the heat and flames to spread into the walls and attic.

No injuries were reported, and the fire was fully contained.
