LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office appointed Joe Gilliam as the new Chief Deputy on Friday.
Gilliam has served in the department for over 20 years and has held various roles, including Detention Officer, Patrol Officer, SWAT team member, and Assistant Chief, according to a press release from LCSO.
Gilliam's promotion has also led to another change in the department. Jordan Roberts has been named the new Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement. Roberts, who joined the department in 2015, was promoted from the Narcotics division and has worked closely with the Texas Anti-Gang Center.
Meanwhile, the former Chief Deputy, Mike Reed, will return to the Detention Center as Chief Deputy of Detention. Reed began his career as a jailer.
These changes come after Ryan Braus, the previous Chief Deputy of Detention, stepped down to develop a new specialized mental health unit within the department.
The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office made the announcement on Facebook.
