LUBBOCK, TX — Several flights were canceled Friday morning at Preston Smith Airport due to strong winds in the area.
According to the airport’s website, 8 Southwest flights, 7 American flights, and 2 United flights were canceled. These airlines decided to stop operations after winds were expected to reach over 60 mph.

According to a statement from Southwest, their decision was made to ensure the safety of passengers and employees. “We paused operations in Lubbock due to forecasted winds in excess of 65 mph. We’ll keep monitoring the situation and resume flights as soon as it’s safe to do so,” said Southwest spokesperson Lynn Lunsford.
Passengers should check the airport’s website for updates on flight cancellations and any new schedules.
