LUBBOCK, TX — An investigation is underway at a private Catholic junior high school in Lubbock after a racial and threatening message was found written in a boys’ bathroom stall on April 3.
In an email sent to the parents and guardians at Christ the King Junior High, Head of Schools, Dr. Alicea A. Chaloupka stated that a derogatory message containing racially explicit language was reported to school officials shortly after it was found in a boys’ bathroom stall on Thursday.
The message read, "N***er, I will r**e you." The message was directed at a student and included a name but has been redacted due to the student's age.
According to the email, Dr. Chaloupka confirmed that disciplinary action would follow per the student handbook.
“We take this behavior seriously, and it is completely unacceptable,” said the email. “This violates our school policies, and we will ensure appropriate disciplinary action is taken.”
The email also states that school officials have reviewed security footage and interviewed students. The Lubbock Police Department has been notified, and a report is being filed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Christ the King is implementing new measures to prevent future incidents, including stricter monitoring of bathroom use, limiting the number of students in the bathroom, and using bathroom passes.
“We ask for your support in reinforcing the importance of respect and inclusion and ask that you [parents] visit with your child and contact me directly if you can help us shed any light onto the situation.”
