LUBBOCK, TX — Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to a house fire early Tuesday morning, April 8, after a 911 call reported flames coming from a home on the 6900 block of 38th Street.
According to a release from LFR, a 911 caller told dispatch they could see a fire through the windows of a single-story house and heard a dog barking inside.
When firefighters arrived just before 9:00 a.m., they found a small house with heavy flames from the front. They immediately entered the house to put out the fire, and other crews from Engine 7 and Engine 9 arrived to help search the home and establish a water supply.
While inside, firefighters were able to rescue a dog, but they encountered intense heat. Crews noted that several gusset plates securing the roof beams were beginning to fail and melt, compromising the roof's structural integrity.

LFR managed to control the fire and prevent any injuries.
The American Red Cross is now helping the family of three adults and two children displaced by the fire.
The Lubbock Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that a malfunctioning ceiling fan in the front bedroom caused the fire to spread quickly to the attic and other parts of the house.
