Lubbock Police Mourn Loss of Longtime Mounted Patrol Officer

LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock Police Department mourns the loss of an officer who served the community for more than 18 years.

In a statement from LPD, Officer John Barber was a respected member of its Mounted Patrol Unit. He was known for his dedication to the department and his craftsmanship in leatherwork, contributing to Texas Tech University’s Masked Rider program.

Barber was battling cancer for several years but continued working until recently, according to the department.

He was described as a devoted officer, mentor, and craftsman whose presence left an impact on the department.

“Thank you, John, for your service to our department, to the profession of law enforcement, and to the Hub City,” LPD wrote.

“We’ll take it from here.”
