LUBBOCK, TX — A Memorial Day service will be held Monday, May 26, at 10 a.m. at the Historic City of Lubbock Cemetery to honor the lives of military veterans buried there.
The Nancy Anderson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in partnership with the cemetery, will host the event at the gazebo near the cemetery office at 2011 E. 31st Street.
According to a press release from the City of Lubbock, retired Texas Supreme Court Justice Phil Johnson is scheduled to speak. The ceremony will also feature music from Jeannie Barrick of the Lubbock Symphony, including the National Anthem and “God Bless America.” The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard will present the colors and perform a 21-gun salute, followed by the playing of TAPS.
More than 2,000 veterans are buried at the cemetery, and guests are encouraged to place American flags at their graves.
Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets due to limited seating.
