Civic Lubbock to Host 2025 West Texas Walk of Fame Inductions

LUBBOCK, TX — Civic Lubbock, Inc. will host the 2025 West Texas Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theatre, located at 1501 Mac Davis Lane. The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

This year’s inductees are Flatland Cavalry, Hector Galán, James W. Johnson, and Jerry Jordan — four honorees whose creative contributions have left a lasting mark on West Texas and beyond.

Flatland Cavalry, a country and Americana band formed in Lubbock in 2012, began when Cleto Cordero and Jason Albers expanded their high school jam sessions while studying at Texas Tech University. The band gained local fame performing at the Blue Light Live before breaking into statewide and national recognition. With four albums, six No. 1 singles on the Texas Country Music Chart and more than 500 million streams, the group has shared stages with artists like Willie Nelson and Luke Combs. In 2024, Flatland Cavalry earned its first ACM nomination for Group of the Year and received RIAA Gold certification for its hit “A Life Where We Work Out.”

Hector Galán, a San Angelo native, is an award-winning documentary filmmaker known for chronicling Latino life and culture in America. A Texas Tech University alumnus, Galán has produced more than 40 hours of national PBS programming, including Chicano! History of the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement. His work has earned national and international recognition, including induction into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in 2017.

James W. Johnson, a visual artist originally from New York, has lived and worked in Lubbock since 1978. After earning a Master of Fine Arts from Texas Tech, Johnson committed more than 80,000 hours to his art, exploring media such as painting, sculpture, video, and printmaking. His work has been exhibited nationwide and is known for its bold colors, intricate textures, and emotional range.

Jerry Jordan, a Lubbock-born painter and musician, began his artistic journey at age 13 after receiving a paint-by-numbers kit. By 18, he had built his first studio on his family’s farm and sold the modern equivalent of $40,000 in artwork within a year. Jordan later pursued a music career as part of the gospel group The Jordans, which won the 1976 Country Music Award for Comic of the Year. Returning to painting, Jordan’s work has since been featured in permanent collections across Texas and New Mexico.

Founded in 1979, the West Texas Walk of Fame honors individuals with strong ties to Lubbock and the West Texas region who have made significant contributions to the performing and visual arts.
